  • Activating Roaming (before your trip)

To activate roaming services, follow the steps below:

    1) Make sure that MTN Irancell has a roaming agreement with your destination country.
    2) The roaming service is activated via MyIrancell application or dialing *1111*1# from your SIM card.

  • How Others Can Call You

If someone (outside or inside Iran) wants to call you, they should dial just as if you are inside Iran. So the subscribers in Iran will contact you normally, but those subscribers who are not inside Iran must add 0098 to your number for making calls to you. For example:

    • Calls from Iran: 09351550400
    • Calls from outside Iran: 00989351550400
  • How to Call Others (outside of your destination country)

To call a number in Iran or outside the country you are visiting, follow the same steps as making an international call:

Country code + area code (drop 0) + phone number

    For example: 00982112345678

  • How to Call Others (within your destination country)

To make a call to the subscribers inside the country you’re visiting, follow the same steps as making a domestic call:

    • If you have not forwarded all calls to your voice mail, anyone in Iran can reach you by dialing your mobile number.
    • You are going to pay for incoming calls while you are in roaming mode.
  • Sending and Receiving Texts

While travelling abroad, you can still enjoy using MTN Irancell short messaging service (SMS). To send texts, follow the same steps as making a call.

  • Roaming Data Usage

By activating roaming services, you can use mobile data while you’re abroad. The usage charges apply based on the related roaming tariffs.

You will have two options to use the high speed data:

    1) 3G data:

MTN Irancell provides you access to 3G data in most of the 158 countries with which it has a roaming agreement. Choose your destination country in the roaming tariffs section to find out about the data roaming charges of various operators. You can also send the name of your destination country (in Farsi or English) to 555 and receive the related roaming tariffs.

Go to Roaming Data Packages page to know about how you can purchase various data packages.

    2) 4G data:

As a member of MTN Irancell community, you have access to the widest roaming network in Iran and can enjoy 4G data while traveling abroad! MTN Irancell 4G data is available in the following countries:

  • Activation Troubleshooting
    • If you are having trouble with your voice and text services in roaming mode, dial *1111*1# and restart your phone once.
    • If you have difficulty using mobile data while roaming, use the following instructions to switch your phone settings to 2G:
  • Deactivating Roaming
    1. You can deactivate your roaming service at the end of your trip by dialing *1111*2# or using MyIrancell app.
    2. Since there is a possibility of automatic roaming activation on the operators of neighboring countries near the border areas, deactivate your roaming service by dialing *1111*2# or using MyIrancell application.
  • Common Questions
    • How can I activate roaming service on my mobile phone?
You can either dial *1111*1# (before leaving the country) or use MyIrancell application to activate roaming service.
    • How can I know about roaming tariffs in a country?
You can go to Roaming Tariffs section to find out about that. Another option is to send the English or Persian name of the intended country to 555. To reduce your expenses, we suggest you manually enter the name of an operator with the least tariff in your phone’s setting.
    • How to make calls in roaming mode?
You can learn about how it’s done in Ways of Making a Call from Abroad with Irancell SIM Cards section.
    • Can I use data while in roaming mode?
If there’s a data roaming agreement between Irancell and your destination country, you can enjoy data in your trip with an activated roaming service. Therefore it’s necessary to check if such an agreement has been made before you go on your trip. The list of these countries is available here
    • Should I use special roaming data bundles to be able to use data while on roaming mode?
Yes. Activated data bundles inside Iran cannot be used in roaming modes and to be able to use data on your trip, you should activate special roaming data bundles.
    • Is P2P Service available in roaming mode?

Yes, you can use MyIrancell app to do that:

      1. Open MyIrancell app and from the bottom of the main page, tap on “Recharge a Friend”.

      2. Now in P2P Service, tap on “Charge Me”.

      3. Enter your friend’s phone number and the required recharge amount and tap on Submit button to send your request.

Your friends can recharge your prepaid SIM card using the following code as well:

      *141*12 to 16 digits PIN*recipient’s number#

It’s necessary to include the country code (98) before the recipient’s number.

Using this service will cost 50 tomans for the airtime credit sender, which will be debited from their account.

    • Will I be charged even if I don’t use my mobile phone in roaming mode?
No. Unless you use any of the telecom services (voice, text, data) in roaming mode, there won’t be any costs for you.
    • Will I be charged for receiving texts in roaming mode?
No, receiving texts is free of charge. So, no worries about promotional text messages when you’re on a trip!
    • Why are roaming prices and tariffs different from those of normal packages?
Due to the fact that roaming charges are directly dependent on foreign currencies (USD) and Irancell is bound to pay a major part of its roaming earnings to foreign host operators, the final tariffs and prices of roaming packages will be affected. However, we understand our subscribers’ concerns and despite the current situation, have felt the obligation and tried our best to offer roaming packages with proper prices and discounts.
    • How can I deactivate my roaming service?

To deactivate your international roaming service at the end of your trip, dial *1111*2#. But we suggest not deactivating it and spare yourself the trouble of reactivating it in your future trips. Roaming deactivation is especially useful to the people living in remote border areas, with the possibility of their inadvertent roaming usage on neighboring countries’ operators.

    • Do I have access to roaming service on board a flight?
Yes you do. By activating roaming in the settings of your mobile phone, you can have access to MNO services even when taking a flight. To know more about which airlines are having an agreement with Irancell roaming, go to Roaming in Flight page.
    • Can I receive calls while on a flight?
If you’re on a flight with those airlines which have an agreement with Irancell, you can make calls, send texts and use your data but receiving calls is not possible. To know more about which airlines have an agreement with Irancell, the prices, etc. refer to Roaming in Flight page.
